QMC Built Different: Kaitlin Moss on Indigenous Footy Culture

In this episode of the QMC Podcast on the IN SPORT App, Bo de la Cruz sits down with Kaitlin “Mossy” Moss for a powerful conversation about rugby league, culture, community and the women who helped build the game long before the NRLW spotlight arrived.

A proud Aboriginal Wuli Wuli woman from the Dawson River region, Kaitlin reflects on growing up in Central Queensland, playing footy from the age of six, becoming the first girl in Rockhampton to make the representative side, and eventually becoming one of the most respected front rowers in Indigenous rugby league.

From Highlanders and Queensland Murri Carnival campaigns to representative football and mentoring the next generation, Mossy opens up about what QMC truly means to Indigenous communities. More than a football carnival, she describes it as a place of belonging, storytelling, identity and connection — where culture and grassroots footy collide.

The episode also explores the toughness and talent within Indigenous rugby league pathways, the need for greater opportunities for players coming through community football, and why so many elite athletes continue to emerge from QMC and Indigenous carnivals around the country.

Kaitlin speaks honestly about stepping away from the game, battling injury, mental health challenges and rediscovering herself through family, healing and reconnecting to the joy of football. Now back training, mentoring young players and considering a return to the field, her story is one of resilience, leadership and legacy.

Raw, emotional and deeply inspiring, this is an important conversation about women’s rugby league, Indigenous excellence, community leadership and the power of giving back.
